2011 Nelson Mandela Day

Matasis Investment Holdings (Pty) Ltd took part in the 2011 Nelson Mandela Day initiative where we helped paint the Umemphi Tembisa Children's Home on the 16th of July 2011, to commemorate Mandela Day as the staff of Matasis.

This particular home houses 9 children aged between 5-17 years old. Children come from different backgrounds of abuse and abandonment. We had a fund day to uplift the kids of the home by painting the outside and inside of the home and getting the children involved, and also provided the kids with basic necessities such as school shoes, toiletries and books.

Members from the AFM Rooihuiskraal church and several colleagues attended to the painting of the home.

We would like to thank the following donors as well:

  • Matasis Consulting donated a cash amount of R7719.04
  • Skye Footwear donated twelve pairs of sneakers for the children.
  • AFM Rooihuiskraal church members donated their time and buckets of paint
  • We would like to thank everyone for taking part in this initiative.

What is Mandela Day?

Following the success of Nelson Mandela's 90th birthday celebrations in London's Hyde Park in June 2008, it was decided that there could be nothing more fitting than to celebrate Mr. Mandela's birthday each year with a day dedicated to his life's work and that of his charitable organisations, and to ensure his legacy continues forever.

The Mandela Day campaign message is simple: Mr. Mandela gave 67 years of his life fighting for the rights of humanity. All we are asking is that everyone gives 67 minutes of their time, whether it's supporting your chosen charity or serving your local community.

Mandela Day is a call to action for individuals – for people everywhere – to take responsibility for changing the world into a better place, one small step at a time, just as Mr. Mandela did.
